Band & album info:

This quartet was formed in 2016 with the addition of guitarist Giovanni Gosi to a trio that had come together the previous year.

The compositions, crafted by Marco Pieri (born 1966), stem from a long, evolving journey that began with his debut. The music is always melodic, a dominant feature that remains varied and refined without conforming to a specific style.

It is influenced by various experiences, reflecting years of research and personal introspection, filled with references and evocations.

The music of Loop Survival tends to be introspective, sometimes melancholic and cinematic, evoking past worlds without being nostalgic or self-indulgent. Instead, it looks forward, always evolving.
This quartet features two guitars and operates within an instrumental genre leaning towards jazz—not as a style, but as a methodology.

Their music incorporates straight and varied rhythms, showcasing the skills of drummer Davide Bussoleni, a highly talented young musician from Cremona. His performance is technically proficient, emotionally rich, fresh, and engaging, avoiding banality and complacency.

The rhythm section is completed by bassist Loris (born 1991), whose solid and sober playing blends seamlessly with the drummer, thanks to their years of collaboration.

Tracks info:

  • Modern Times
Apart from referencing Chaplin’s cinematic masterpiece, this piece is my interpretation of the industrialized and globalized human world. An underlying sadness flows from the melody, reflecting a conscious melancholic vision of our way of life, based on the exploitation and impoverishment of the individual through “work.” A broad and calm melody is written over a tight and fast tempo, serving as a metaphor for our frantic existence—running despite ourselves. Yet, the notes also convey a “youthful” hope, with the melody’s strength symbolizing the courage to live and face life’s challenges.
  • Mabe
How many times has “maybe” changed, or would have changed, our lives… even just for a day or a moment? That indefinite place where all our actions and thoughts are subject to chance and chaos… our feelings and fears reflect the doubt inherent in all our choices, and are summed up in the word… “Maybe.”
  • Groundhog Day
“Groundhog Day,” an American and Canadian holiday celebrated on February 2nd, is also the title of a film where the protagonist (Bill Murray) relives the same day repeatedly in a time loop. In Italian, “Groundhog Day” metaphorically signifies repetitive or unchanging situations. This piece acts as a bridge between my earlier compositions and my most recent ones, transforming the familiar into something new. It’s a step where the ordinary is deconstructed and reintroduced to fresh ears, yet in the end, we inevitably begin anew.
  • A Real Hero
I don’t believe in “heroes” as individuals, but I do believe in heroism—the fundamental resilience and courage required to navigate life’s challenges.
After many years dedicated to music, despite enduring constant obstacles and setbacks, I find myself still here, creating music. This song is my tribute to a “true hero”—a metaphor for the ordinary person who perseveres through adversity. They don’t wear uniforms or capes; instead, they wield a guitar as their tool of expression and survival.
  • After Midnight
The night doesn’t distract us from ourselves like the day does; it unfolds more slowly, revealing ghosts and anxieties alongside precious gardens and profound joys.
For those of us who regularly go to bed at 6 in the morning, the nocturnal condition becomes a familiar and habitual part of life, reinforced over time.
“After Midnight” was born from these reflections and mirrors my introspective journey, naturally occurring… after midnight.
  • Travel Companions
This piece serves as a presentation of the quartet, specifically written for two guitars to showcase the anticipated “new” sounds introduced by Giovanni on the second guitar. It functions akin to a business card, allowing listeners to grasp the group’s distinctive sound and the stylistic direction pursued by the musicians.
  • My Land (part one & two)
In the summer, I often cycle along the banks and countryside surrounding my hometown of Cremona, places that hold a special place in my heart as they are where I grew up. This serene and dreamy song draws its inspiration from these rides, particularly in the late afternoon sun and the solitude of the beautiful fields.
These green, cultivated landscapes have been my muse, inspiring me to create the musical soundtrack of my family and my sense of “home.” They have added a layer of musical memory to my cycling journeys through the countryside of Cremona.
Within this piece, there is also a technical homage to Randy Rhoads, a young guitarist who passed away at the age of 27. As a young boy, I deeply admired and respected him. I intentionally included a harmonic sequence from one of his compositions dating back to 1980, as a gesture of tribute and gratitude for the powerful musical influence he had on me during my formative years.
  • Loop Survival
A piece structured like a small suite, where the repeated and almost obsessive basic guitar riff marks the rhythmic progression of the piece as a kind of “Loop”… a small metaphor of “surviving”, the primary mechanism and primordial force of life .
The apparent calm of the flow of the song alternates with moments full of “tragic anger” that tell a story already heard that repeats itself inexorably over time… and that touches every single living organism on the planet (hence the title of the song) “Survival loop” this “vicious virtuous circle”, survival which is a desperate force that permeates our entire life, which makes us face Monsters and Demons, fight even in the most desperate conditions..
Hence the inexorable crescendo of the piece towards the “liberating desperation of the human cry for life as it rushes towards the end”.
My thoughts go in particular to those who flee from the atrocities of poverty and war who die with their children in the sea which is the same one that I like so much and where I go on holiday… of a world that makes rankings and assigns different values, to depending on the proceeds, to Human life and to life in general. This song is dedicated to them.
